Is this Panasonic Video Camera compatible with my Macintosh computer?
Hi everybody! I am considering getting a new HD video camera (a Panasonic AG-HMC40, to be exact) but I have one little question. The specs on the Panasonic website say that I need a dual core 2.6 GHz processor (or higher). I have a dual core 2 GHz processor. Is the extra .6 a matter of life or death, or will it just mean that my footage will be imported a little less speedily? I am covered on the RAM – the camera calls for 1024 MB and I have 2 GB. Anyway, let me know what you think. Thanks!
What is just as important – if not more important – is what Apple says about dealing with AVCHD compressed MTS video files.

In either case, the “compatibility” issue means whether the files can be dealt with – MTS files are VERY compressed. Step 1 is is decompression. The CPU’s speed and amount of RAM will have a direct impact on the speed of processing the video files, rendering (scene transitions, titles, exporting to computer readable files, etc.). I’ve read several posts indicating “incompatibility” – where upon further investigation, it is merely because the rendering is slow. This is not “incompatible” this is impatient. Incompatible means nothing can be done with the files unless they are transcoded to a different file format.
2 gig RAM is very low for dealing with high definition video (whether AVCHD/MTS or HDV). 4 gig RAM is STRONGLY recommended.

Can convert the MTS files to a format that is more useful to the hardware environment you are in, including downsample to less than high def – which sort of defeats the purpose of having high definition video capture. Tere are many other video converters (transcoders) available – they all basically do the same thing.
